  • Real time Compton imaging for BNCT, Sakai Makoto, Japan Society for the Promotion of Science, Grants-in-Aid for Scientific Research Grant-in-Aid for Early-Career Scientists, Grant-in-Aid for Early-Career Scientists, Gunma University, Apr. 2019, Mar. 2022, Principal investigator, Using a Monte Carlo simulation to simulate the measurement of the BNCT reaction by a Compton camera, we were able to measure the prompt γ-rays of 480 keV. In an experimental measurement, an AmBe source was used to create a thermal neutron field in which the boron and Compton camera were placed. In the design, optimization was performed using Monte Carlo simulations. However, 480 keV γ-rays due to the BNCT reaction were measured even in the absence of boron. As a result of the investigation, it was found that the heat insulating materia of the Compton camera contained boron. Therefore, the insulation was made of boron-free material and retrofitted., 19K17261

The recent trend in radiation oncology tends to utilize carbon or heavier ionized particles with higher linear energy transfer (LET). This induces a limitation of current dosimetry at the field where only physical doses are evaluated by conventional ionization chambers. Our group had been developed a dosimeter using a diamond detector that enables us energy-dispersive dosimetry in the heavy-ion cancer treatment field. A thin-film diamond detector with a film thickness of fewer than 50 μm was developed and combined with an electronic circuit system developed for micro-dosimetry. Different LET distribution was successfully obtained by the newly developed diamond dosimeter, which also able to estimate the α and β parameters that are required for estimating the relative biological effects (RBE)., 18K11916

A high-speed image reconstruction method was also developed to reduce the calculation time. In this process, the influence of noise has become large in the reconstructed image, so a noise suppression filter was added to the image reconstruction algorithm. When the performance of the newly created image reconstruction program was evaluated by simulation, it was confirmed that an image of higher quality could be obtained while shortening the time required for image reconstruction. By combining these, the distribution of Y-90 could be imaged by Compton camera. Besides, comparing the measurement performance with the conventional equipment, it was confirmed that the spatial resolution is similar to the conventional scintillation camera (SPECT) can be obtained., 17K15798

Trench structure for cell cultivation was formed on the surface of the thin-film single crystal diamond (3 mm × 3 mm × 30μm) by reactive ion etching with oxygen plasma . Bio-compatibility of the diamond surface was confirmed by cultivating HSG cells on the device. Then, an electrode was formed on the backside of the diamond film to evaluate its detector response under cell cultivating conditions. Response of the developed charged particle detector was evaluated under radiation exposure of alpha particles from 241Am source and protons from accelerator., 26600139
