  • Development of Measurement Method for Free Surface Flow using Laser Tagging Method by Photochromic Dye, AMAGAI Kenji, Japan Society for the Promotion of Science, Grants-in-Aid for Scientific Research Grant-in-Aid for Scientific Research (C), Grant-in-Aid for Scientific Research (C), Gunma University, 01 Apr. 2012, 31 Mar. 2015, In this study, the laser tagging method by photochromic dye was developed for the study of free surface flow behavior. Flow characteristics of liquid sheet jet and surface flow on an inclined wall were investigated. Pulses of UV light (wavelength, λ= 355nm) by a Nd:YAG laser were used in order to form the photochromic dye traces. Liquid velocity was measured from the movement of dye traces. Moreover, by forming a set of 4-points of dye traces on the liquid sheet, normal strain, shear strain and rotational motions were estimated from change of relative positions of the dye traces. Liquid surface velocity and wave velocity for falling liquid films on inclined wall were simultaneously measured by the laser tagging method. As the result, it was confirmed that the liquid film moved in almost constant velocity before approaching the surface wave.   • Establishment of VOC measurement technique using laser induced fluorescence method, AMAGAI Kenji, Japan Society for the Promotion of Science, Grants-in-Aid for Scientific Research Grant-in-Aid for Scientific Research (C), Grant-in-Aid for Scientific Research (C), Gunma University, 2008, 2010, Laser induced fluorescence method was applied for the visualization of Volatile Organic Compound (VOC) gas. Fourth-harmonic generation light of ND : YAG laser was used for the excitation of the VOC gas. An image intensifier (I/I) was used for capturing the VOC fluorescence images. Diffusion characteristics of VOC from suspended droplets of xylene and toluene were investigated. Moreover, VOC images from a droplet deposited on a wall and a spray flow were visualized by this method. Measurement results were compared with the solutions of the one-dimensional diffusion equation.   • Study on a laser probe measurement for precursors of nano-PM generated in combustion fields, AMAGAI Kenji, Japan Society for the Promotion of Science, Grants-in-Aid for Scientific Research Grant-in-Aid for Scientific Research (C), Grant-in-Aid for Scientific Research (C), Gunma University, 2006, 2007, Nano meter size particulate matter (nano-PM) and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PANS) have harmful effects for human health. Investigations of fundamental characteristic of formation behavior of PAHs in combustion process were required for the reduction of nano-PM emission. In this study, PAHs characteristics in diffusion flames of liquid and gas fuels were investigated using laser diagnostic and gas sampling methods. Methane (CH_4), propane (C_3H_8) and hexane (C_6H_<14>) were used as the test fuels. A laser induced fluorescence (LIF) method was used to obtain the spatial distributions of PAHs, which were precursor molecules of soot particles. Spatial distributions of soot were also measured by a laser induced incandescence (LII) method. A transition region from PAHS to soot was discussed from the results of LIF and LIL Further, PAH concentrations in the test flames were measured using a gas chromatography (GC). Profiles of PAHs concentrations of test flames were compared. As the results, it was found that the low carbon number fuels such as propane and methane are remained to some fuel at downstream part. And, these some fuels were changed to large PAHs at downstream part. Moreover, it was confirmed that relatively small PAHs species such as benzene and toluene existed in looting region, however, the larger PAHs such as fluorine and pyrene could not be observed in the sooting region., 18560190
  • Development of High Turbulence BGR Ultra-low NOx Combustor for Liquid Fueled Micro Gas turbine, ARAI Masataka; AMAGAI Kenji; SAITO Masahiro, Japan Society for the Promotion of Science, Grants-in-Aid for Scientific Research Grant-in-Aid for Scientific Research (B), Grant-in-Aid for Scientific Research (B), Gunma University, 2005, 2007, Micro gas turbine system is now received much attention for a local energy plant. As for the viewpoint of fuel, an energy plant using liquid fuel is desirable because of safety and smooth fuel supply even id the emergency situation such as earthquake. Also combustion emission from energy plant should be minimized for daily use of the plant. Ultra low Nox combustor with liquid kerosene fuel is developed as a micro gas turbine combustor for this purpose. The developed combustor has a unique flow system that is called upward swirl flow. This flow can form the upward reverse flow with burned gas re-circulation and is effective for flame stabilization with high turbulence. Also it is effective to attain a low Nox combustion by the effect of BGR. The main results obtained here are as follows. (1) Longer length of primary combustion zone results the undesirable combustion such as CO and Nox increases and low stability of flame. (2) The effect of vane angle of the swirl generator is not so much, however HC and CO emissions increase when the swirl generator is eliminated. (3) Air guide vane set at the bottom end of primary combustion zone shows the strong effect on the flame stabilization. For flame stabilization, enough height of vane is needed. Also an enough size of throat diameter at the outlet of primary combustion zone is needed for flame stabilization. (4) An optimization among the size of primary combustion zone, swirl generator, air guide vane and outlet throat results the enough emission performance of the combustor. Nox emission index less than 0.8 g/ (kg-fuel) and CO emission index less than 10 g/ (kg-fuel) can be attained under the primary excess air ratio of 1.5 〜 1.6, 17360091
  • Development of Laser Diagnostic Method for Nano-PM Precursor Formed in Flames, AMAGAI Kenji, Japan Society for the Promotion of Science, Grants-in-Aid for Scientific Research Grant-in-Aid for Scientific Research (C), Grant-in-Aid for Scientific Research (C), Gunma University, 2003, 2004, Laser induced fluorescence(LIF) method for the measurement of PAHs(Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons) in diffusion flames was developed. A KrF excimer laser and a dye-laser pumped by a XeF excimer laser were used to excite the PAHs molecules. Two-dimensional images of PAHs concentrations in the flame could be obtained by using the temporally resolved LIF method. From the data of emission spectra of PAH vapors, it was found that the peak wavelength in the emission spectrum of LIF shifted to the longer wavelength side with an increase of PAH carbon numbers. By using of this data, carbon numbers of PAH in a diffusion flame was presumed. It was confirmed that the carbon numbers of PAHs in the diffusion flame increased with approaching to the flame surface. Flame length and width were measured as the function of gravity scale. Also, how the gravity affects on the stability and blow off behavior of the flame were discussed. The gravity level was artificially controlled by using a spin tester in the gravity range from G=1 to G=15, where G=1 means the gravity on the earth. The laminar diffusion flames of methane and propane gas were made on the tip of the small vertical pipe where the vertical direction means an opposite direction of the artificial gravity. The results showed that the flame became unstable with an increase of gravity level. The flame length decreased and the blue flame length increased with an increase of gravity level for every fuel. These results are explained by the promotion of natural convection flow which was caused by an increase of buoyancy force. The flickering of flame and blow off were observed in a high gravity level. A test chamber attached to the end of a rotating arm was constructed to produce the quasi-super-gravitational fields. A hot surface, droplet-forming equipment and a video camera for measuring the lifetime of a droplet were installed in a test chamber. Lifetime curves of water, n-decane and benzene were measured under the gravity of G = 1 to 12.
