  • Novel Functions in Organic-Inorganic Surface Nanostructures, Fujisawa Jun-ichi, Japan Society for the Promotion of Science, Grants-in-Aid for Scientific Research Grant-in-Aid for Challenging Exploratory Research, Grant-in-Aid for Challenging Exploratory Research, Gunma University, 01 Apr. 2016, 31 Mar. 2018, I have studied surface nanostructures of organic compounds on inorganic semiconductors and their functions using various inorganic semiconductor nanoparticles and organic compounds in a wide range from a strong adsorption regime (chemisorption) to a weak adsorption regime (physisorption). I found that bisphenol derivatives form nanocavity structures on TiO2 surfaces in a strong adsorption regime. The cavity nanostructures feature the photoinduced charge change due to interfacial charge-transfer transitions. In a weak adsorption regime, methylene blue forms H-aggregates on SrTiO3 surfaces due to photoinduced diffusion motion. The photoinduced molecular transfer occurs by one-cycle charge-distribution change in methylene blue due to electronic excitation and relaxation.   • Development of High Performance Dye-sensitized Solar Cells by Organosilicon Concept, Hanaya Minoru, Japan Society for the Promotion of Science, Grants-in-Aid for Scientific Research Grant-in-Aid for Scientific Research (B), Grant-in-Aid for Scientific Research (B), Gunma University, 01 Apr. 2015, 31 Mar. 2018, Dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs) have been investigated actively as practical photovoltaic cells of the next generation. We focused our attention on the potential of alkoxysilyl dyes as sensitizing dyes for DSSCs based on their high bonding ability to metal-oxide surfaces by forming firm Si-O-metal bonds, and developed a new alkoxysilyl coumarin dye with the help of MO calculations. The cell using the dye exhibited an open-circuit photovoltage over 1.4 V, which is the highest value reported so far for DSSCs. We also found that the cell with the TiO2 electrode co-adsorbed with an alkoxysilyl carbazole dye and a triphenyl amine carboxy dye shows the collaborative sensitization effect, and succeeded to develop the cell showing the light-to-electric conversion efficiency over 14%., 15H03848
  • Research and development of next-generation inorganic solar cells using interfacial charge-transfer transitions as a novel operating principle, Fujisawa Jun-ichi, Japan Society for the Promotion of Science, Grants-in-Aid for Scientific Research Grant-in-Aid for Challenging Exploratory Research, Grant-in-Aid for Challenging Exploratory Research, 01 Apr. 2013, 31 Mar. 2016, Interfacial charge-transfer transitions enable direct photoinduced charge separation without loss of energy. In this work, we found that interfacial charge-transfer transitions take place from the surface-bound sulfur atoms on TiO2 to the conduction band of TiO2 in a TiO2-benzenedithiol surface complex. In addition, I applied this material to photovoltaic cells. We observed that photoelectric conversion occurs by the surfur-to-TiO2 interfacial charge-transfer transitions with an internal quantum efficiency of about 65%.   • Control of Photovoltaic Devices based on Interfacial Charge-Transfer Transitions between Metal Oxide Semiconductor and Organic Molecules, FUJISAWA Jun-ichi, Japan Society for the Promotion of Science, Grants-in-Aid for Scientific Research Grant-in-Aid for Young Scientists (B), Grant-in-Aid for Young Scientists (B), The University of Tokyo, 2010, 2011, Novel organic solar cells based on the surface complexes of TiO_2 and dicyanomethylene compounds(TCNX). were studied to improve the energy conversion efficiency. By introducing four methyl groups being an electron-donating group to TCNQ, the light absorption region could be extended to the near IR region around 900nm. Furthermore, by using alkanediol as a coadsorbent the short-circuit photocurrent density was enhanced to ca. 15mA/cm^2. In addition, by adding guanidinium ions to the electrolyte, the open-circuit voltage was increased. By this research, the energy conversion efficiency was improved to ca. 3. 5%., 22750120
