  • Soil heavy metal pollution survey and impact assessment on crops in China, Itabashi Hideyuki, Japan Society for the Promotion of Science, Grants-in-Aid for Scientific Research, Grant-in-Aid for Scientific Research (B), Gunma University, 01 Apr. 2017, 31 Mar. 2021, It was revealed that there is a paddy field contaminated with cadmium and mercury in Jiangsu Province, China. In those paddy fields, rice cultivation experiments were conducted by adding a soil conditioner obtained by fermenting bark, and it was found that the addition of the soil conditioner could suppress the uptake of heavy metals into rice. In particular, this effect is remarkable in cadmium, and it has been clarified that the addition of a soil conditioner can reduce the cadmium concentration of rice exceeding the standard value to below the standard value. In rice pot cultivation tests conducted in China and Japan, it was clarified that the soil conditioner obtained by fermenting bark can suppress the uptake of cadmium into rice even under different conditions of soil and rice varieties., 17H04482

Especially, we focused on the development of the method, which can convert lignin into valuable carbon materials using metal ions, based on a concept of the solution chemistry. First, lignin extracted from the bark was dispersed in a solution with a divalent metal ion such as Fe(II) and Co(II). Next, when the metal-supported lignin was heated at 1200 °C under a low oxygen atmosphere for 1 h, the monolayer graphene, which exhibits high-conductance property was successfully generated due to the catalytic effect of the supported metal. Our method that can produce valuable carbon material by the simple way will contribute to breakthrough technology in biomass recycling, while some of the plans could not be achieved during the four-year study period., 17H01904

  • Development of an on-site speciation system for the speciation of heavy metal ions in natural water by r-FI method, ITABASHI Hideyuki, Japan Society for the Promotion of Science, Grants-in-Aid for Scientific Research, Grant-in-Aid for Scientific Research (C), Gunma University, 2002, 2004, 1.Based on a back-extraction of bis(4,4,4-trifluoro-1-(2-thieny1)-1,3-butanedionato)copper(II), a method for speciation of copper(II) in natural water was developed and applied to river water samples. The results indicated that the most of copper(II) in the river water existed as the complex with naturally occurring ligand. 2.A simple method for evaluating the copper(II) complexing ability of humic acid was developed based on spectrophotometric determination of copper(II). The method, using a stopped-flow system, enabled us to determine not only copper(II) complexing capacity but also the lability of copper(II)-humic acid complex. The established method was applied to humic acid sample solutions, and the results revealed that the humic acids form a considerably stable complex with copper(II). 3.A continuous flow system for the separation of cadmium(II) from zinc(II) was developed based on dithizone extraction. The proposed flow system has two extraction coils, a forward-extraction coil and a back-extraction coil, connected in series through a phase separator. In the forward-extraction coil, cadmium(II) was extracted into the organic phase while zinc(II) was hardly extracted. In the back-extraction coil, cadmium(II) was back-extracted into the aqueous phase while zinc(II) remained in the organic phase. Consequently, only passing the sample solution through the flow system, we were able to separate cadmium(II) from zinc(II) quantitatively. 4.A flow injection ESI-MS system attached with electrodeposition column was developed. The system was successfully applied to the speciation of copper(II) in river water samples.   • Mutual Separation of Metal Chelate by Solvent Extraction-Micellar Electrokinetic Capillary Chromatography, KAWAMOTO Hiroshi; ITABASHI Hideyuki, Japan Society for the Promotion of Science, Grants-in-Aid for Scientific Research, Grant-in-Aid for General Scientific Research (B), Gunma University, 1992, 1994, 1.Mutual Separation of Metal Ions by Dithizone Extraction-Isotachophoresis on the Basis of HSAB Principle Based on the hard and soft acids and bases (HSAB) principle, a method for extraction of metal ions with dithizone was developed for preconcentration and separation of trace metal ions. The extracted metal ions in organic phase were back-extracted to EDTA solution. The resulting solution was applied to isotachophoretic analysis. The separation of zinc (II), cadmium (II) and lead (II) at 10-6 mol dm03 level could performed by the present method. 2.Mutual Separation Method for Metal Ions by Solvent Extraction with Diethyldithiocarbamic Acid and Isotachophoresis on the Basis of HSAB Principle. On the basis of the HSAB principle, a method for extraction of metal ions with diethyldithiocarbamic acid (DDTC) consisting of the preconcentration and separation of trace metal ions was developed. Metal ions extracted into CCl_4 were back-extracted into Cu-EDTA solution which was applied to isotachophoretic analysis. This method made possible the separation of Cd^, Fe^, Pb^ and Zn^ at 10^<-6> mol dm^<-3> level. Back-Extraction Mechansim of Dithizonato Chelate. The back-extraction mechanism of dithizonato Chelate (MR_2, M=Zn, Cd) was studied. And it was found that the rate-determining step is the reaction of MR_2^*+H^**MR^*+HR in the aqueous phase following the rapid partition of MR_2 between the organic and aqueous phase and formation of ring-opened complex (MR_2^*) at the initial stage of shaking., 04453034
